چکیده

The effects of a range of nonionic and ionic water-soluble polymers on the micellar stability of sodium dodecyl sulfate were investigated by the pressure-jump method. The presence of polymer that interacts with SDS was found to decrease the micellar stability drastically. Surface activity of the polymers was correlated with their ability to reduce the micellar stability. The decrease in micellar stability was explained by the formation of premicellar aggregates (or submicelles) of surfactants in the presence of polymer, which facilitated the micelle formation-disintegration process.

Effect of Antifoaming Agents on the Micellar Stability and Foamability of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Solutions

The effect of antifoaming agents on the foamability of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) solutions was investigated and correlated with their effect on the micellar relaxation time τ2. The slow micellar relaxation time τ2 of SDS micelles, which is directly related to micellar stability, was determined by the pressure-jump method in the presence of the antifoaming agents 2-ethylhexanol (EH), tributyl...

Experimental Measurement and Kinetic Modeling of Ethane Gas Hydrate in the Presence of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Surfactant

Abstract: In this work, the kinetics of ethane hydrate formation has been studied experimentally and a kinetic model based on chemical affinity has been described for predicting the hydrate growth process in the stirred batch reactor at a constant volume. The experiments were done with both pure water and aqueous solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The effect of SDS on formation kineti...

Effect of Tetraalkylammonium Chlorides on Foaming Properties of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Solutions

The effect of tetraalkylammonium chlorides (TCnAC for n ) 1, 2, 3, and 4) on the micellar stability of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) solutions was investigated and related to dynamic interfacial properties, such as foamability and foam stability as well as surface viscosity and surface tension. The slow relaxation time τ2, which is directly related to the micellar stability, was determined using...

Preparation of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Modified Pyrrolidine-1-dithiocarboxylic acid Ammonium Coated Magnetite Nanoparticles for Magnetic Solid Phase Extraction of Pb(II) from Water Samples

This paper describes the development of a procedure for Pb(II) ions removal from various water samples after magnetic solid phase extraction (MNPs) by magnetite nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs) modified with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and pyrrolidine-1-dithiocarboxylic acid ammonium (PDTCAA). The synthesis of Fe3O4 NPs was certified by characterization techniques including field emission scanning el...

Relationship between Micellar Lifetime and Foamability of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate and Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate/ 1-Hexanol Mixtures

The interface between air and surfactant solution expands rapidly during the foam generation process. Surfactant molecules in the solution should adsorb onto the newly created surface to stabilize foam. As surfactant monomers adsorb on the surface, micelles disintegrate to provide additional monomers to adsorb on the expanding interface of foam. If micelles are very stable, they cannot rapidly ...
